In Focus: Rome Thrasher
This is the first of a series of interviews of local artists known as In Focus. First person to break into this series is Rome Thrasher. Rome first caught my attention due to his heavy sets covering the range of dubstep, to moobahcore, to trap. Aside from the stacked track lists he chooses to play for every show the energy he brings to the stage is phenomenal.

After and during a handful of shows I've gotten to know Rome and why it is what he does, here's what he had to say:
So Rome, What made you first get into this scene?
Seeing 12th Planet at Camp Bisco X made me really want to do this. He didn't play much of his own tracks but straight mixed, and I was just like word this is something I could see myself doing.
Other than 12th Planet, which other artists do you see being a main inspiration?
Out of all the artists that inspire me, other than 12th Planet, I would say Porter Robinson. I've always been a huge fan of Porter and his productions just put things on a whole other level.
I hear a lot of talk about CaveLife. What is CaveLife and what does it mean to you?
CaveLife is just about the underground. It started as a bunch of friends playing in a basement - a.k.a "The Cave" - teaching each other how to mix and just have fu,n listening to music all night. They say you never forget where you come from, and for me that's CaveLife, starting in basements to playing in front of a couple thousand people.
What was the first major gig you ever played?
Stuff Your Face With Bass: Winter Womperland was the first time I made it out to the main stage.
Following that show, I've seen you grow and headline next to some very impressive artists that are currently headlining our scene, which one has been your favorite so far?
I would have to say either Designer Drugs or Bro Safari, both of those shows had intense crowds.
Now we just covered favorite show, how about most memorable, as in which show meant the most to you?
Easily when I played down at Webster Hall NYC. It was by far the smoothest set I've ever played especially being in a venue that has housed so many great names. Just to have that opportunity given to me was a great feeling.
I know you have a few original tracks that you've done yourself, are you working on more?
I haven't given as much time into producing as I would like to but lately I've been working with Bomberman on a few projects that are coming together real smooth. He recently released a trap song called EZ Wider that has been playing all throughout our area for a few months now and I really like the work that he does.

OK Rome, I just want to end this on one note, what would you say to people who want to take on dj'ing or who really have a passion for it but don't seem themselves getting anywhere?
I would say just keep doing what you're passionate about and don't stop. It takes a lot of hard work and lots of "No's" until you really start seeing yourself go places.

Rome is absolutely an artist to look out for in our area. His sets, personality, and energy make a deadly combination to share the stage with any of the main headliners that come to the area. I am really looking forward to more original music from Rome and to see him grow as an artist.
